Model STE-A Pin Brinell Tester

The Pin Brinell tester is the first Brinell hardness tester at a low price. The unique impact hardness method uses a shear pin to control the force applied. The impression left after a is measured with a Brinell scope just like a standard Brinell, so the tester can be used on heterogeneous materials like castings and on as-ground test surfaces. The kit comes with with everything needed for testing (except a carbide indenter needed if testing a high hardness materials) and includes a bag of 250 shear pins (one pin is required for each test).

The Pin Brinell test method is simple and precise

A calibrated shear pin breaks at a precise load which removes the force on the indenter and leaves a precise indentation. The Clamp applies the load more slowly than the impact model thereby providing better accuracy on some types of materials

Operation: The operator inserts an impact pin (above right) into the impact head (seen above left) and presses the indenter against the pin, puts the impact head into the C-clamp and adds the indenter cap (keeping the indenter in place before clamping. The test sample is placed into the clamp and the the large square thread screw is lowered onto the part and then the load is applied by turning the handle until the pin breaks. The indentation in the sample is measured with the Brinell scope and a Brinell hardness result is read off the enclosed chart for the measured diameter. Prior to performing a second test the operator must remove the broken shear pin and push the indenter out of the shear pin hole, ready for the the next shear pin.
